Tolerance can be simply stated as the ability to accept diversity and to live

and let others live. It is the act of accepting practices of which you don't approve.

A person having a high tolerance quotient would be able to practice fair and

objective behavior towards those whose opinions differ from his/hers.  By being

tolerant, you are respecting and learning from others, valuing differences, bridging

cultural gaps, rejecting unfair stereotypes, discovering common ground, and creating

new bonds. Tolerance, in many ways, is the opposite of prejudice.

Tolerance is essential to living a healthy life. We live in a world that is a potpourri of

cultural traditions that lead to the major differences among people.  Being a member

of the human race, we interact with people of different cultures, ethnicities, nationalities

and religions. Our circle of friends, schoolmates, college-mates, office colleagues reflect

the diversity around us. In short, success in today's world depends on being able to

appreciate others work and being tolerant to the differences that exist.

Lyrics - “You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught”

You’ve got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You’ve Got to be taught
From year to year.
It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff’rent shade,

You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!.
